Apprenticeships

The WCS programme has developed a diverse range of dedicated support for providers who deliver Apprenticeships. Whether it’s dedicated one-to-one advice or sector-specific insight, WCS offers a portfolio of support to help providers enhance the quality of their Apprenticeships' delivery.

We are now actively recruiting in a number of the key areas, so it's the perfect time to access the support that is right for you. We are particularly interested in hearing from any provider interested in being a sector coach, participating in our focus groups or applying for individual consultancy.

Individual consultancy

For providers who deliver Apprenticeships that need performance improvement, we are offering 10 days of individual consultancy to 20 providers nationally.

Apprenticeship providers, who are delivering significant volumes of learners in the following sector subject areas, would benefit from this support

  • automotive industries
  • information & communications technology
  • health public services & care
  • hospitality & catering.

Interested?

If you work within one of these sectors and are interested in this support, please complete the application form and send to wcsenquiries@kpmg.co.uk

If you have already been nominated by your LSC or the National Apprenticeship Service you need not reapply.

Apprenticeship Improvement & Development (AID) Tool

WCS is currently developing a data capture and modelling tool known as Apprenticeship Improvement & Development (AID). This tool will help providers measure the effectiveness and efficiency of their Apprenticeship delivery in order to improve the quality of provision.

AID will identify areas for quality, effectiveness and efficiency improvement in Apprenticeship delivery in the five most popular sectors in terms of learner numbers:

  • construction, planning and the built environment
  • engineering and manufacturing technologies
  • business, administration and law
  • retail and commercial enterprise
  • health, public services and care.

The tool will be available from December 2009 and we are now actively seeking providers in these sectors to pilot the tool alongside up to 10 days of individual consultancy.

Interested?

For more information on the pilot project, please see the attached document.

If you wish to apply for this project, you will need to complete the attached application form and return to rena.hering@kpmg.co.uk.

Online conferences

The Government has placed an increased focus upon the public sector as an engine of Apprenticeship growth.

With this in mind, we have set up a two hour webinar focused on social care. This will be the first in a series of interactive online events designed for providers to engage employers and support 16-18 year old Apprenticeship expansion within the public sector.

We will soon be announcing the remainder of these online conferences, which will deal with subjects including local authorities and central government.

Group consultancy and regional events

In three regions, we are offering the opportunity to take part in group consultancy, where 10 providers work together collaboratively to their improve Apprenticeship delivery.

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) will make the decision on which regions receive this support. In regions that are not running group consultancies a dedicated event will be delivered that will reflect regional priorities in expanding Apprenticeships.

Interested?

If you are interested in group consultancy support, please contact your regional NAS office.

Individual consultancy - Group Training Associations / Apprenticeship Training Associations (GTA/ATAs)

We are providing individual consultancy support of 10 days duration to providers that have successfully bid to become Group Training Associations/Apprenticeship Training Associations (GTA/ATAs) following the recent NAS Invitation to Tender.

A briefing will be held to outline this support in Birmingham on 10th November 2009.

Providers will be contacted directly with the details of this event. In the meantime, for more information please contact tracy.murphy@kpmg.co.uk.

Route Map Tool

A Route Map Tool is being developed to help providers identify the support required and options available for individual apprentices who are facing redundancy. This will be available in the New Year for providers as a downloadable resource.

We are now in the process of establishing provider focus groups to gather effective practice from Apprenticeship providers who have dealt with medium to large scale redundancies in a number of industry sectors to inform the development of this tool.
