National Skills Academies

National Skills Academies (NSAs) are a network of government funded, employer-led, world-class centres of excellence, providing vocational education and training for school leavers and adults, tailor made to meet the specific needs of industry sectors and those who work in them. Their aim is to provide an innovative approach to giving learners and employers the specialist skills they need.
By enabling employers to take control of the design and delivery of learning in their industry, and by working together with employers to ensure that their needs are met, NSAs play a key role in developing solutions to close the skills gaps.
Minister for Skills, David Lammy emphasised the key role that NSAs have to play in driving up the nations skills:
‘The network is putting employers in the driving seat to shape training for their industry. It is already helping Britain face the challenge presented by the skills race — which we can and must win. The network is key to supporting progression, creating jobs, tackling strategic skills shortages and driving up productivity.’
WCS is now working with seven NSAs, to help them develop their provider networks to collaborate, share effective practice, increase quality and encourage employer responsiveness.
The work with each NSA is tailored to suit their particular needs so that a bespoke solution is developed along with a package of focused support delivered where it is most needed and will have most impact.
An example of the work we are doing with the National Skills Academies is the NSA for Nuclear National Conference. This brought providers from the sector together in a networking event. To learn more, please see the related news article, NSA for Nuclear National Conference.
