CPD Tool
Planning for professional development
You can use the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Tool to record thoughts, ideas, reflections and actions as you continue your journey of professional development with the WCS programme.
While activities such as events form the core of the programme, reflecting on what you have gained from those actions is a vital part of your progression. Without proper reflection on these activities, it can be extremely difficult to understand where you are in your professional development or to gauge what else you need to do in order to achieve your CPD goals.
The CPD tool aims to make the process of reflection easier so that you will gain as much as possible from the WCS programme. The more you use the tool to record insights and reflections over time, the more direction you will be able to draw from it.
You will be able to see how much time you have spent on the key areas of the programme so that you can plan further work in each area. The tool will also highlight relevant areas of development and the appropriate courses to attend.
Guidance
Before you start, the guidance and effective practice advice on CPD available via the Institute for Learning and the LSIS Teaching and Learning Programme can give you some valuable insight to get the best from the CPD tool.
Try also to think about the six-step approach to reflection on your CPD when recording your thoughts and ideas:
Step 1 – Contextual analysis
Step 2 – Needs and goals
Step 3 – Individual development plan
Step 4 – Professional development log
Step 5 – Professional development record
Step 6 – Reflection on practice and impact analysis.
This will help you to fully engage with the programme and ensure no opportunities for development are missed. You can also download and save all your recorded thoughts and insights so that they can be used in other CPD tools.
